“You know what I get from that show? Rarely is the tool what makes or breaks a survivalist. The most common reason people tap out is attitude. You can see it pretty quickly who will make it and who won’t.”
After Saturday’s email to you about “Naked and Afraid”, Randy’s pithy (and accurate) comment reminded me of a week in Oregon when I was in High School…
I attended a world class training program focused on “teaching philosophy that focuses on developing technical skill, physical preparation, building mental toughness, and life skills”… and every morning, the dialog went like this:
Instructor: “How are you today?”
Wrestler: “Okay” (or “good”, “tired”, “mehhh”) – you know normal teenager stuff.
Instructor: “DROP AND GIVE ME TWENTY!”
“The only acceptable response in here is “I’m fantastic, but it WILL get better!”
See… these guys knew the battle on the mat was at least as much mental as it was physical. And, without a proper mindset, we’d defeat ourselves before the match ever started.
You know- I still respond with “Fantastic, but it will get better!” often in business and I’m met with a perplexed smile…
Isn’t it true that most of the battles we’re facing in our business are mental?
If we have the perserverence, the right attitude, are willing to help, and are selling a product or service that people want, need or desire…that we’ll succeed in the end?
I think so!
Today is going to be a GREAT day!
Because… I choose it to be!
